The Glen Dale Police Department is one of the finest municipal police departments in the state.
The police department offers several programs in the community to promote safety of the citizens of Glen Dale and promote public awareness against property crime.
Community programs offered are:
D.A.R.E - This program is designed to speak to children at the grade school level about the effects of drugs and peer pressure. It teaches children to say "NO" against alcohol and tobacco. It also explains the penalties for drugs and alcohol. Glen Dale Police is the only police department in Marshall County to present this program. If you should have any further questions about the program, please contact Lieutenant Edward C. Vogler at the above listed telephone number or by e-mail.
"Click it or Ticket" - This program is designed to promote safety of drivers while driving through Glen Dale. Wheeling Avenue, U.S. 250, has approximately 8,000 cars during an 8 hour period. Officers patrol this stretch of highway to enforce all traffic violations, to keep crashes to a minimum. They also are citing drivers for not wearing there seat belts (conforming with local laws). This is in the form of seat belt blitzes that are done throughout the year. The speed limit on Wheeling Avenue is 35mph, it is radar enforced. This program is sponsored by the State of West Virginia and The National Highway Safety Council.
The Glen Dale Police officers patrol the streets of Glen Dale n a 24 hours basis. They also do community policing. This is done in the summer time by riding bicycles donated by American Electric Power. The department currently has two bicycles. These bicycles have electric motors attached to them and the bikes can travel at approximately 25 mph. The officers are also available to speak with residents about property crimes and how they effect are daily lives.
