Building Permit Instructions & Information
A building permit is only issued after the zoning officer has approved the application, which has been submitted. The zoning officer notified you if there are any questions on the permit. For a new structure or additions, the building permit will not be approved until the following is submitted by a drawing size of lot (s) dimensions and drawings of proposed new structure property lines. All new structures must comply with the B.O.C.A. codes
To all contractors you must have a Glen Dale City license and a valid West Virginia Contractors License. If found by any means, that any information on this application is false or incorrect the permit is automatically void.
When a permit is submitted for approval for a certain location or a certain job. It is mandatory that all contractors, sub0contractors, etc who are hires for the job are licensed as a contractor in the state of West Virginia (Copy must be provided) and must have a Glen Dale City License. It is the responsibility of the property owner to provide the city with a complete list of contractors or sub-contractors that will be working on the job and must include the total cost which will be paid to each for the job that they are to perform.
Property owners are cautioned not to try to circumvent these regulations. The city is mandated to monitor each job to its completion. If compliance is not followed further action may be taken by the city.
In the past we have had contractors who have complained to the city and state on certain jobs, we have and will follow-up on any complaint in these matters.
We ask that all follow the regulations. In doing so that will eliminate any problems.
Do not begin any work until the hard copy has been signed and approved.
By filling an application and paying the fee does not automatically mean approval. if you begin work prior to receiving the permit itself, there is a possibility that the job may be ordered stopped. Please understand this is done for your protection and your investment as well as that of the city.
The owner must ensure that each building or other man-made structure he or she owns is inspected for the presence of asbestos by a licensed asbestos inspector prior to any renovation or demolition activities.
If no asbestos-containing materials are identified, you may proceed after given and approved building permit with renovation or demolition activities provided that you have also complied with the applicable requirements of WV Code of State Rule 45 CSR - Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants pursuant to 40 CFR Part 61, administered by the WV Department of Environmental Protection - Division of Air Quality.
If asbestos-containing materials are present, you may not proceed until those materials are abated by a West Virginia licensed asbestos abatement contractor.
